Timeless elegance, a rich history and exceptional service are all hallmarks of Sydney’s iconic Capitol Theatre.

Upon entering this much-loved theatre, expect to become immersed in its vibrant history through the beautifully restored interiors, which pay homage to the bygone era of Australian theatre.

Nestled within the pulse of the Haymarket district, the building itself began its life in 1892 as a produce market before being converted into a hippodrome designed for a circus in 1916. Since 1927, the Capitol Theatre has been used as either a picture palace or theatre.

The Capitol Theatre is one of the city’s favourite buildings, and as a cultural touchstone, expertly showcases the stories, tales, and legends of theatre. From blockbuster musicals to premier ballets, audiences are consistently delighted by the lineup of live entertainment.

Connecting past, current, and future generations, the Capitol Theatre is where memories and magic are made.

Located on Campbell Street, Haymarket, the Capitol Theatre is conveniently situated near restaurants, retail, and various modes of public transport.

The Capitol Theatre is a Foundation Theatres venue.
